I've almost decided to buy a old Nikon film camera and do that myself. What stops me though, is scanning either negatives or prints. What's your plan?

The current plan is to develop b/w film in my new studio [ok fine, it's actually just my tiny little kitchen] myself. Since I'm presenting the work almost exclusively on the web skipping actual printing and instead scanning straight film seems to suit me just fine. Part of this shooting film thing in 2008 is that I want to develop my own film too.

I can almost guarantee the current scanner situation will grow old REAL fast. I bought a scanner on the cheap a few years ago (around $120 bucks) which does an okay job but have my sights set on something a littler nicer I may treat myself to later this year :).

Very cool shot--you did this with a Holga?

Returning to my roots

22 January 2008

A long time ago in a far away land I shot a lot of film (which is almost difficult to remember). This entry is dedicated to that time and place. I shot these photos with my Holga a couple years ago somewhere on the interstate near the Wisconsin / Minnesota border (erring on the Wisconsin side, I believe). Did you know the Holga could have such great color without photoshop? Yeah. I forgot too.

This entry is dedicated to making 2008 my 'return to film' year.

I used a some recent dirty photog money to buy myself a spiffy Nikon 35mm SLR which I, well, basically intend to run in to the ground. Admittedly, I'm quite looking forward to getting my hands dirty. This is going to be wicked fun.

For your added viewing pleasure check out some of these wonderful film photogs with work so beautiful I might actually be blushing:
